I asked John how he used the Nokia 770 as a controller
this was the reply...
I use RDP (remote desktop protocol) to one of my WinXP Pro servers that is setup for a separate account. That where NR actually resides (I have a separate skin created for the Nokia 770's resolution). It works fairly well. There is a RDP client written for the Nokia 770.
To install it on the Nokia use the following link from the Nokia itself
http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2006/rdesktop/
Best to goto the website with the Nokia and click the Click to Install (the apge takes awhile to come up).
That how I did it.
John

Hi,
I'm a bit overwhelmed by the topic and hope someone can point me to an idiots step-by-step guide (!) as to how to set up and connect my Nokia 770 as a remote desktop to my Windows XP Pro computer. I've installed rdesktop on the 770 - but from then on I'm lost. I've googled the topic but haven't found anything that explains it .....
Thanks,
Jeff
Hi Jeff,
What I did was create a second user account on the PC
remember the password & login details...
Check the ip address of the 770 on your router...
Check the ip address of the PC on your router...
(*if you can do address reservation its a good idea to do this)
Allow the ip of the 770 through your firewall.(or turn off temporarily)
Then I clicked on remote desktop and it should ask for ip address of your PC
the login and password
enter this detail and it should start the second user on your PC
hope this works as I'm remembering from memory
any problems come back....
Cheers
Mark
some people learn by writing, some by reading, some by listening and some by doing?...me I'm not learning at all
Also remember that the RDP session for that second account will be at the screen resolution as the Nokia 770. So you need to create a skin that fits the Nokia. The first account can use its own resolution.

Well I just bought myself one of these, been designing a skin for it based on WMP 11
I have also set up my server for RDC/netremote and connected just fine from my laptop, so hopefuly it will go that well when I get my 770![]()
Hi All,
is there anyway that the 770 can turn off the 'system' that its using the second account from....
the 'turn off' & 'restart' buttons are disabled in the windows screen
I cannot bring up 'task manager'...
I sometimes use it for browsing and would like to turn the system off...from bed...
cheers
